Sacrificateurs et descendants de David. Guersom et Daniel étaient deux chefs de familles sacerdotales descendant, le premier de Phinées, le petit-fils d'Aaron par Eléazar, le second d'Ithamar, le plus jeune fils d'Aaron. Ce ne sont pas les seuls sacrificateurs qui soient revenus avec Esdras ; d'après le verset 24 il y en avait en tout cas plus de douze. Nous ignorons pourquoi leur nombre, non plus que celui des descendants de David, n'est pas indiqué, puisque, à partir du verset 3, nous trouverons régulièrement donné celui des chefs de familles laïques qui ont accompagné Esdras.

Hattusch figure aussi dans 1Chroniques 3.22 au nombre des descendants de David ; c'est en cette qualité qu'il n'est pas cité parmi les autres familles non sacerdotales.

Des fils de Sécania. Ces mots ont été à tort rattachés au verset 3, car d'après 1Chroniques 3.22, Hattusch était fils de David par la branche de Sécania. D'ailleurs dans toute la suite, jusqu'au verset 14, nulle part ne se présente une double indication comme celle que nous aurions ici : Des fils de... des fils de...

      1 These were the divisions of the sons of Aaron. The sons of Aaron: Nadab and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar.
      2 But Nadab and Abihu died before their father, and had no children: therefore Eleazar and Ithamar executed the priest's office.
      3 David with Zadok of the sons of Eleazar, and Ahimelech of the sons of Ithamar, divided them according to their ordering in their service.
      4 There were more chief men found of the sons of Eleazar than of the sons of Ithamar; and they were divided like this: of the sons of Eleazar there were sixteen, heads of fathers' houses; and of the sons of Ithamar, according to their fathers' houses, eight.
