Comme une pierre. C'est l'image d'une disparition instantanée ; la même pensée revient au verset 10 sous une autre image. On croit surprendre ici l'impression produite par la vue de ce fait émouvant sur un témoin de la scène. Dans les monuments égyptiens, les capitaines d'élite sont représentés avec une armure d'airain qui leur couvre le corps et les membres jusqu'aux coudes et aux genoux. Ils devaient donc disparaître instantanément, sans qu'on les vit lutter un instant contre les flots.
