Mon peuple particulier. C'est en hébreu la même expression que Tite 2.14 (1Pierre 2.9). Dans une vaste monarchie, il y a toujours un peuple qui tient de plus près au souverain, et qui a une position privilégiée. Telle était, par exemple, la position des Chaldéens par rapport à Nébucadnetsar, comparativement aux autres peuples réunis à son empire. Le mot hébreu signifie proprement l'épargne propre ou la cassette privée du prince (1Chroniques 29.3).

Toute la terre. C'est là l'empire en général ; il comprend tous les peuples de la terre, en tant que créatures de Dieu. L'universalisme est toujours l'arrière-plan en même temps que l'avenir du particularisme théocratique.
