Sédécias fera si bien qu'il amènera par sa folie la destruction du peuple entier. La remarque finale peut être envisagée comme une note ajoutée ici après coup, lorsque déjà l'événement avait justifié cette complainte anticipée. Mais cette souscription a peut-être un caractère plus frappant et plus poignant, si on l'attribue à Ezéchiel lui-même. Le prophète ferait remarquer deux choses : la première, que ce morceau n'est pas un discours, comme tous les morceaux précédents, mais une poésie, comme celles que l'on a coutume de composer sur les événements douloureux, publics ou privés : C'est ici une complainte. Puis, pour bien affirmer la certitude du malheur prévu et pleuré à l'avance, il ajouterait que cette complainte ne manquera pas de prendre place parmi celles du même genre qui se chantent en Israël : et elle est devenue une complainte. Il la verrait déjà admise dans le recueil populaire. Cette manière de s'exprimer serait bien conforme au tour énigmatique du style d'Ezéchiel.
