Les princes de la mer : les magistrats de ces colonies. Les Tyriens avaient eu soin de maintenir un lien très étroit entre la métropole et les colonies, surtout au moyen de la religion commune.

Ce verset nous transporte en quelque sorte dans l'assemblée du sénat de Carthage ou de l'une des grandes colonies phéniciennes en Espagne, au moment où y parvient la nouvelle du désastre de la métropole.

Se vêtiront d'épouvante. Tout dans l'expression de leur figure et dans le désordre de leurs vêtements exprimera l'effroi.
