4 à 9 Les étrangers et le peuple.

Devant la Maison... C'est en face du temple que le prophète reçoit toutes les instructions qui vont suivre jusqu'à 46.18. La présence de la gloire divine qui remplit le temple doit pénétrer le prophète du sentiment de la sainteté de ces prescriptions. C'est aussi le but des paroles du verset 5 qui invitent Ezéchiel à concentrer toute son attention sur ce qui va lui être dit (comparez 40.4). Il faut que le désordre et les abus qui s'étaient introduits dans la célébration du culte ne se renouvellent plus.

Par le portique septentrional... Du portique oriental extérieur (Figure 1,B) le chemin le plus direct pour arriver dans le temple eût été de passer, non pas par ce portique septentrional du parvis intérieur (J), mais par le portique oriental du même parvis (I). Mais celui-ci, d'après 46.4 et suivants, doit être habituellement fermé et ouvert seulement le jour du sabbat. Quoique cette règle n'ait pas encore été donnée, elle est sans doute appliquée ici à l'avance, à cause de l'analogie de la règle relative au portique extérieur, verset 12.

La gloire de l'Eternel... qui y était entrée 43.4 (comparez 10.4 ; Exode 40.34 ; 1Rois 8.11).

A ce qui entre... c'est-à-dire quelles sont les personnes qui ont le droit d'entrer dans le sanctuaire (et d'y officier), par toutes les issues du sanctuaire, c'est-à-dire dans quelle extension elles peuvent le faire. C'est le thème ou tout au moins le cadre de ce qui suit jusqu'à la fin du chapitre 46. La prescription qui précède rentre déjà sous ce titre ; mais, comme il y est question du prince, elle avait une importance d'un ordre distinct par rapport aux questions du culte proprement dit.
