C'est-à-dire exclu de l'Eglise de Dieu, maudit, en exécration. (Romains 9.3, note ; 1Corinthiens 16.22) Comme Romains 9.3, Paul, en admettant que lui-même ou un ange de Dieu pût annoncer un autre Evangile, suppose une chose impossible, afin de rendre sa pensée plus absolue. (Comparer 1Corinthiens 13.1)

Son indignation paraît d'autant plus effrayante qu'elle lui fait retourner l'imprécation contre luimême.
