C'est là la conclusion de tout ce que l'apôtre a prouvé, (versets 15-28) c'est un regard qu'il jette en arrière sur sa démonstration : les faux docteurs prétendaient que ceux-là seuls étaient la postérité d'Abraham, qui, entrant par la circoncision dans l'alliance ancienne, observaient toutes les prescriptions temporaires de la loi.

Paul a montré que, dans ce cas, il y aurait plus d'une postérité d'Abraham, puisque la promesse, qui certainement en a créé une, a été donnée longtemps avant la loi. (Vers 15-18.) Il a prouvé ensuite par le but de la loi, qu'elle ne changeait rien aux dispositions que Dieu avait prises par la promesse, puisque la loi n'était qu'un moyen préparatoire, éducateur, pour amener à Christ, en qui n'existent plus de différences. (versets 19-28)

Il n'y a donc qu'une seule postérité d'Abraham, celle de la promesse, parfaitement accomplie en JésusChrist. (verset 29)
