Parole de Vie © À quoi sert de fabriquer des faux dieux ? Ce sont seulement des statues en métal qui font croire à des choses fausses. C’est un artisan qui les a fabriquées, et elles ne parlent pas. Alors pourquoi cet artisan met-il sa confiance en elles ?

World English Bible "What value does the engraved image have, that its maker has engraved it; the molten image, even the teacher of lies, that he who fashions its form trusts in it, to make mute idols?

18 à 20 L'idolâtrie, le péché contre Dieu. Au lieu de commencer, comme les strophes précédentes, par le mot Malheur ! celle-ci l'introduit au moyen d'un verset, qui la rattache à la précédente par cette pensée préparatoire : Le Chaldéen, dans le jugement qui va fondre sur lui, ne doit compter sur aucun secours de la part de ses faux dieux.

L'idole est appelée ici docteur mensonger, en raison des oracles qu'elle est censée rendre et qui égarent ceux qui les suivent. Comparez le verset 19. C'est l'opposé du Dieu de vérité dont les révélations conduisent sûrement ceux qui s'y confient.
