Ce que tu as fait entendre : le châtiment de Juda et la ruine des Chaldéens, en un mot tout l'ensemble des révélations contenues aux chapitres 1 et 2.

Ce que tu as fait dans le cours des âges. Ces actions de l'Eternel que le prophète désirerait voir de nouveau, ce sont les diverses délivrances accordées par Jéhova à son peuple dans le passé ; le prophète en cite quelques-unes à la suite (versets 3 à 15) ; il prie dès maintenant l'Eternel de les faire revivre, de les reproduire dans l'avenir si sombre qui s'offre à ses yeux ; car avant qu'arrive le châtiment des Chaldéens, il sait bien que son peuple aura à traverser des jours d'épreuve, et c'est dans ce cours des années qu'il sollicite l'Eternel d'agir de nouveau. Ces œuvres ne peuvent signifier que les délivrances anciennes dont la sortie d'Egypte et la traversée du désert (rappelées versets 3 à 15) sont l'expression la plus éloquente. Le prophète prie l'Eternel de renouveler de tels miracles envers son peuple.

Dans ta colère, souviens-toi... Le prophète sent bien que la juste colère de l'Eternel envers son peuple doit avoir son cours, mais il n'en fait pas moins appel à sa pitié.

      16 I heard, and my body trembled. My lips quivered at the voice. Rottenness enters into my bones, and I tremble in my place, because I must wait quietly for the day of trouble, for the coming up of the people who invade us.
