L'auteur ferait allusion au baptême et inviterait ses lecteurs à demeurer fidèles à la foi qu'ils ont alors professée.
Le mot de confession ou profession se retrouve au Hébreux 4.14 dans un sens un peu différent.
Ici la profession de l'espérance signifie la ferme attente de la résurrection, de la vie éternelle, qui se fonde à la fois sur ce qui précède (Hébreux 10.21-23) et sur ce qui suit, savoir la fidélité du Dieu qui a fait les promesses.
