World English Bible that the word of Isaiah the prophet might be fulfilled, which he spoke, "Lord, who has believed our report? To whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?"

Esaïe 53.1, cité exactement d'après les Septante, conformes à l'hébreu. Telle était la plainte douloureuse du prophète sur l'incrédulité de son peuple, cette parole introduit la description des humiliations et des souffrances du Messie méprisé et rejeté par ce peuple. Elle s'est réalisée dans l'histoire du Sauveur.

Non seulement sa prédication, comme celle du prophète, est restée sans effet sur le grand nombre, mais le bras du Seigneur, c'est-à-dire sa puissance manifeste dans les œuvres de Jésus, n'a pas été révélé à son peuple. Cette incrédulité devait se produire, si étrange soit elle, pour accomplir la prophétie.

Il faut laisser au mot afin que toute sa signification, car l'évangéliste va l'expliquer par une autre citation.
