Selon l'apparence (grec la vue), à prendre le côté extérieur, formel, la lettre de la loi, il est sûr que Jésus avait violé le sabbat ; mais selon la justice (grec mais prononcez le jugement juste), et en s'élevant à l'esprit de la loi, qui est la charité, il est certain qu'il avait fait une œuvre excellente.

Cette sentence, dans sa forme générale, est susceptible d'applications infiniment diverses.
