Ces gens sont tous complètement stupides. Leurs dieux ne peuvent rien leur apprendre, ils sont en bois.

L'enseignement de leurs idoles. Chaque Dieu était considéré comme faisant l'éducation de la nation qui se réclamait de son nom. Par une figure hardie, la nature matérielle de l'idole est attribuée à l'enseignement dénué de toute vraie spiritualité que le faux dieu donne au peuple qui l'adore ; comparez verset 3.
