La parole de l'Eternel. Plus le prophète ment, plus il cherche à faire illusion aux autres et peut-être à lui-même, en répétant les formules habituelles des vrais prophètes (voir verset 2). L'exemple de Manassé, revenu de Babylone sous le règne d'Asarhaddon, pouvait prêter quelque vraisemblance à ces espérances trompeuses.
