World English Bible Thus says Yahweh, The people who were left of the sword found favor in the wilderness; even Israel, when I went to cause him to rest.

L'expression : réchappé de l'épée, prouve qu'il ne s'agit pas ici, comme pourrait le faire penser le terme de désert, de la sortie d'Egypte. Le prophète parle du futur retour des Juifs après la captivité, qu'il contemple comme déjà accompli. Cependant le grand souvenir du séjour dans le désert et de la conquête de Canaan est présent à son esprit et lui fournit les couleurs du tableau. Comparez Osée 2.14.

Mis en repos, comme au temps de Josué ; comparez Esaïe 62.8-9 ; 63.14.
