Jérémie 50.2

Un étendard : signal convenu pour annoncer au loin un événement important. Comparez Esaïe 13.2.

Bel et Mérodac : voyez Esaïe 46.1, note. Ces deux noms paraissent s'appliquer à la même divinité, la principale dans le panthéon assyro-chaldéen. Le nom de Mérodac, aussi bien que celui de Bel, se retrouve dans celui de plusieurs souverains (Mérodac-Baladan, Evil-Mérodac).

      46 At the noise of the taking of Babylon the earth trembles, and the cry is heard among the nations.

      Jérémie 51

      8 Babylon is suddenly fallen and destroyed: wail for her; take balm for her pain, if so be she may be healed.
      31 One runner will run to meet another, and one messenger to meet another, to show the king of Babylon that his city is taken on every quarter:
      44 I will execute judgment on Bel in Babylon, and I will bring forth out of his mouth that which he has swallowed up; and the nations shall not flow any more to him: yes, the wall of Babylon shall fall.
      47 Therefore behold, the days come, that I will execute judgment on the engraved images of Babylon; and her whole land shall be confounded; and all her slain shall fall in the midst of her.

      Sophonie 2

      11 Yahweh will be awesome to them, for he will famish all the gods of the land. Men will worship him, everyone from his place, even all the shores of the nations.

      6 I saw an angel flying in mid heaven, having an eternal Good News to proclaim to those who dwell on the earth, and to every nation, tribe, language, and people.
