Quelqu’un est-il dans l’affliction ? Qu’il prie et qu’il présente son problème à Dieu !

C’est précisément ce que fit le peuple de Dieu, ici dans ce texte ; il ne se plaignait pas, par crainte des calamités à venir, mais à cause des maux pénibles qu’il endurait journellement. Si nous sommes repentants et patients, en endurant la souffrance due aux péchés qu’ont pu commettre nos ancêtres, nous avons l’assurance que Celui qui permet tout châtiment, saura nous accorder Sa Miséricorde.

Les enfants d’Israël reconnaissaient avoir péché devant Dieu ! Toutes nos afflictions sont dues à notre propre iniquité et à notre folie. Bien que nos péchés et le juste mécontentement du Seigneur qui en résulte, soient à l’origine de nos souffrances, nous pouvons espérer bénéficier de Son pardon et de Sa Grâce miséricordieuse et sanctifiante, ainsi que de Sa merveilleuse Providence.

Les péchés de toute la vie d'un homme seront punis avec la sévérité qu’il mérite, à moins qu'il ne se confie en Celui qui a porté, par les blessures de Son corps, nos iniquités sur le « bois de la croix ».
