Le sacrifice pour le péché devait rappeler à Israël les péchés qu'il avait commis fréquemment dans l'usage des dons de Dieu et le mettre en garde contre de nouveaux abus dans la jouissance des dons nouveaux qui venaient de lui être accordés.

En sacrifice d'actions de grâces. C'est ici le seul cas où un sacrifice de ce genre soit prescrit par la loi pour la nation tout entière. Ordinairement les victimes d'actions de grâces étaient mangées par l'Israélite qui les avait offerts mais, comme c'est ici le peuple qui les donne, elles peuvent revenir au sacrificateur.

Par cet ensemble de rites, toute. la moisson, depuis les premiers épis d'orge jusqu'aux derniers de froment, se trouve placée sous la bénédiction du Seigneur, et le pain quotidien de chaque famille israélite devient un pain qu'elle reçoit de son Dieu et qu'elle partage avec lui.

      17 but what remains of the flesh of the sacrifice on the third day shall be burned with fire.
      18 If any of the flesh of the sacrifice of his peace offerings is eaten on the third day, it will not be accepted, neither shall it be imputed to him who offers it. It will be an abomination, and the soul who eats any of it will bear his iniquity.
