World English Bible But those farmers said among themselves, 'This is the heir. Come, let's kill him, and the inheritance will be ours.'

Quelle révélation de ce qui se passait dans le cœur des adversaires, auditeurs de Jésus ! Leur but principal, en mettant à mort le Messie envoyé de Dieu, était précisément de rester en possession de la théocratie, des avantages, de l'influence, des honneurs qu'elle leur donnait et qu'ils craignaient de perdre.

Dans tous les temps, les ennemis du Sauveur ont le sentiment plus ou moins conscient qu'en se débarrassant de lui, de sa vérité, de son autorité, ils resteront en possession d'eux-mêmes, de leurs intérêts terrestres, et de leur orgueilleuse indépendance vis-à-vis de Dieu.
