Yahweh your God will raise up to you a prophet from the midst of you, of your brothers, like me. You shall listen to him.

La question : Qui est celui-ci ? venait de ceux des habitants de Jérusalem qui ne connaissaient point encore Jésus ; et la réponse qui suit était donnée par les foules qui lui faisaient cortège en lui rendant hommage. Comme la plupart de ceux qui composaient ces foules venaient de la Galilée, ce n'était pas sans un certain orgueil national qu'ils annonçaient, comme originaire de leur province, le grand prophète, prédit par les Ecritures et manifesté comme tel par toute sa vie.
Ainsi fut atteint l'un des buts de cette entrée triomphale de Jésus à Jérusalem. Il y fut acclamé en présence de cette population qui n'avait fait aucune attention à sa parole et à ses œuvres. Mais, en même temps, les caractères de cette entrée royale étaient propres à détruire les fausses espérances messianiques de son peuple. Et ce ne fut qu'après sa résurrection et son retour dans la gloire, que ses disciples eux-mêmes comprirent toute la spiritualité et la grandeur divines de son éternelle royauté.
