- La lèpre est une affreuse maladie, fréquente encore en Orient, très contagieuse, incurable après les premiers progrès, (2Rois 5.7) qui couvre le corps entier de dartres et de plaies et le dissout en partie avant que la mort s'ensuive.

Le lépreux était exclu par la loi de toute communication avec la société, soit à cause de la contagion, soit parce que la maladie était légalement impure. Les Juifs la considéraient aussi comme un châtiment spécial de Dieu, fondant sans doute cette opinion sur certains faits rapportés dans l'Ancien Testament. (Nombres 12 ; 2Rois 5 ; 2Chroniques 26)

Si tu veux, tu peux ! Simple et touchante prière ! Par la première de ces paroles, le lépreux s'en remet humblement à Jésus, à la volonté de Dieu ; par la seconde, il exprime une grande foi. Dans ces premiers temps du ministère de Jésus, la connaissance que ces malades avaient de lui était bien faible, leur confiance en lui d'autant plus admirable.

Ce terme : me purifier, indique à la fois la guérison de la maladie et l'affranchissement de la souillure légale.

Dans ces versets, nous avons un récit de Christ, purifiant un lépreux qui s’était approché de Lui, convaincu que Jésus était doté de la Puissance divine.

Cette purification nous enseigne, non seulement à savoir compter sur Christ, Celui qui détient tous pouvoirs sur les maladies corporelles et qui peut les guérir, mais elle nous enseigne aussi de quelle manière nous devons le faire.

Lorsque nous ne sommes pas certains de pouvoir discerner la volonté divine, nous pouvons néanmoins être assurés de la véracité de Sa Sagesse et de Sa Miséricorde. Nulle culpabilité n'est trop grande, qui ne puisse être expiée par le sang de Christ ; nulle corruption n'est trop forte pour que Sa Grâce ne puisse la contenir. Pour être purifiés, nous devons nous recommander à la Miséricorde du Seigneur ; nous ne pouvons pas le Lui demander comme s’Il avait une dette envers nous, mais nous devons L’implorer humblement, comme pour obtenir une faveur.

Ceux qui recherchent Christ, par la foi, pour recevoir Sa Miséricorde et Sa Grâce, peuvent être certains que selon leur attitude, Il est tout à fait disposé à leur octroyer librement ces bénédictions. Les afflictions que nous pourrions connaître et qui finalement nous amènent au Seigneur, en nous faisant rechercher l'aide et le salut qui viennent de Lui, sont en fait, de véritables bénédictions !

Que ceux qui sont ainsi purifiés de leur « lèpre spirituelle », puissent se rendre auprès des serviteurs de Dieu et leur exposer leur cas, afin que ces derniers puissent les conseiller, les réconforter et prier pour eux !
