Le châtiment, exactement calqué sur le péché. L'Eternel prend exemple d'eux (Lévitique 26.23-24) : comme ils ont fait, il leur sera fait.

Je médite... comme eux méditaient (verset 1 ).

Cette race : le peuple, dont tous les membres impies périront dans le jugement.

Dont vous ne pourrez retirer votre cou. Le châtiment est représenté sous l'image d'un joug pesant sous lequel ils seront forcés de courber leur tête : rétribution des violences exercées par eux (verset 2). Ce joug, c'est celui de la conquête étrangère et de la captivité. Comparez Jérémie 27.2 ; Lévitique 26.13.

La tête haute, marque d'orgueil (Esaïe 3.16).

C'est un temps mauvais : non dans un sens moral, comme dans Amos 5.13, où se retrouvent les mêmes expressions, mais un temps mauvais, de malheur et de châtiment, pour les pécheurs ; tandis que, dans Amos, il s'agit d'un temps mauvais pour les fidèles.
