Il mettra sous ses pieds... : signe qu'il n'y prendra plus garde. On pourrait aussi entendre qu'il les Ă©crasera, comme Ă©tant nos plus dangereux ennemis (comparez Romains 16.20).

La seconde image du verset (tu jetteras dans les profondeurs de la mer) est empruntée encore au récit de la sortie d'Egypte : les péchés du peuple sont comme des adversaires qui se lÚvent contre lui pour le perdre, ainsi qu'autrefois Pharaon. Mais Dieu les jette dans la mer, comme il fit des Egyptiens (comparez les expressions Exode 15.5,10) ; c'est-à-dire que ces péchés, expiés par l'exil et maintenant pardonnés, sont voués à un oubli éternel (Esaïe 43.25).
