9 à 12 Célébration de la fête de la nouvelle lune.

Le gouverneur (hébreu Hatthirschatha, voir Esdras 2.63). Néhémie lui-même se donne le titre de pécha (5.14,15,18), que nous avons rendu par.le même terme. Ceci montre que nos trois chapitres ne sont pas de lui.

Ne pleurez point ! La lecture de la loi avait fait sur le peuple une impression si profonde, que ce jour d'actions de grâces se changeait en un jour de larmes et de jeûne. Néhémie arrête cette déviation.

Il était vraiment positif, de voir le cœur des Juifs aussi avide d'entendre les paroles de la loi. Le peuple devait partager son repas avec ceux qui n'avaient rien préparé. Lors d'une fête religieuse, il est du devoir de chacun de distribuer toute nourriture, matérielle comme spirituelle, aux âmes affamées ; la générosité divine devrait nous rendre généreux !

Nous devons non seulement donner à ceux qui nous entourent, mais aussi à ceux qui sont loin de nous.

La force spirituelle du peuple provenait de la joie qu'il éprouvait dans le Seigneur. Plus nous comprenons la Parole de Dieu, plus nous sommes encouragés à La lire ; les « ténèbres » de l'ennui résultent de « l'obscurité » de l'ignorance.
