Marie est appelée prophétesse (Exode 15.20) ; Aaron, comme souverain sacrificateur, détient les Urim et les Thummim (Exode 28.30, note), et il a souvent été associé à Moïse pour recevoir les révélations de Dieu. A l'inverse de Josué, qui redoutait de voir amoindrir les droits de Moïse, Aaron et Marie se refusent à reconnaître sa prééminence.
