Les villes. Cette contrée du Midi, qui n'est aujourd'hui qu'une steppe couverte de pâturages ou de buissons, paraît avoir été très peuplée au temps de Moïse. Le livre de Josué énumère vingt-neuf villes avec leurs villages dans le Négueb (15.21-32). Le terme de villes désigne ici les lieux habités, en général, depuis les simples campements jusqu'aux localités fortifiées.
