41 à 50 Murmures et châtiment du peuple.

L'esprit de révolte n'a pas été extirpé du peuple par la scène du jour précédent. Dès le lendemain il se réveille à l'occasion même de cette scène.

Vous avez fait mourir... Et c'étaient eux qui avaient sauvé le peuple (verset 22) !

La terre s'était à peine refermée que déjà le peuple commettait les mêmes péchés : Il murmurait contre Moïse et Aaron, sans se soucier de la punition envoyée précédemment par l'Éternel. Les Israélites accusaient les deux patriarches d'avoir fait mourir le peuple de Dieu : cette tragédie ne pouvait être, d'après eux, que le résultat du Jugement divin et de Sa Justice. La persistance d'Israël dans sa méconnaissance de la terreur qui doit découler de la loi divine et des jugements qui peuvent en résulter, cette même terreur qu'il avait eue lorsque la loi avait été donnée sur le Mont Sinaï, montre combien il est nécessaire que la grâce de Dieu change le cœur et le comportement humains. L'amour est capable de faire ce que la terreur ne peut accomplir. Moïse et Aaron intercédèrent auprès de l'Éternel pour implorer Sa grâce, mesurant très bien la gravité du péché commis par le peuple. Aaron se présenta et brûla de l'encens entre les morts et les vivants, non pas pour purifier l'air ambiant mais pour apaiser la colère divine. Aaron étant vraiment soucieux de la vie de chaque Israélite, fit tout son possible pour arrêter la "plaie" rapidement. À chaque fois que le mal a été commis, sachons, dans la mesure du possible, le « réparer » en pratiquant le bien.

Aaron était en quelque sorte une image de Christ. Le monde est infecté par le péché : seule la Croix et l'intercession de Jésus-Christ demeurent et sont capables de purifier cette infection.

Aaron vint parmi le camp des Israélites fautifs. Il se tint entre les morts et les vivants, tel un « médiateur » entre le Juge éternel et les âmes condamnées. En ce qui nous concerne, nous avons la rédemption au travers du sang de Jésus, la rémission de nos péchés. Nous pouvons admirer dans ce passage, la réelle dévotion d'Aaron.

Nous ne pourrons jamais assez bénir et louer la Grâce merveilleuse et l'Amour qui ont animé le cœur de notre Sauveur, quand Il prit notre place à la croix, pour racheter nos péchés. Oui, vraiment, Dieu a manifesté Son Amour envers nous, alors que nous étions pécheurs, Christ est mort pour nous, Romains 5:8 !
