Pendant qu’Éfraïm se développe parmi ses frères, le vent d’est arrive, il vient du désert. C’est moi, le SEIGNEUR qui l’envoie. Alors les sources n’ont plus d’eau, les puits sont secs. Le vent emporte le trésor, tous les objets précieux. »

World English Bible Though he is fruitful among his brothers, an east wind will come, the breath of Yahweh coming up from the wilderness; and his spring will become dry, and his fountain will be dried up. He will plunder the storehouse of treasure.

Il fructifie. Le mot Ephraïm signifiant : double fécondité, riche fertilité (Genèse 41.52). Osée fait allusion an sens de ce nom. Au moment où il semblera le mieux mériter son nom, le vent du désert (la puissance assyrienne) se lèvera et le dessèchera, tarissant toutes les sources de sa prospérité.

On, littéralement : il, c'est-à-dire l'ennemi du dehors.
