Proverbes 13.13

Celui qui ne tient pas compte d’un conseil le paiera cher. Mais celui qui respecte un ordre sera récompensé.
Celui qui méprise la parole, se perd ; mais celui qui respecte le commandement, en aura la récompense.

La parole désigne sans doute ici la parole de Dieu, ses commandements ; comparez 16.20, où le mot parole est en parallèle avec l'Eternel.

En devient le débiteur, littéralement : lui emprunte sur gages. L'homme qui a méprisé les préceptes divins en ne leur obéissant pas, a contracté vis-à-vis d'eux une dette qu'il paiera sous la forme du châtiment qui l'attend et que la parole a annoncé.
