30 à 34 Tableau sous forme narrative qui rappelle Psaumes 37.35-36. L'auteur a voulu voir de ses propres yeux à quoi conduit la paresse. Il a passé auprès de la propriété d'un homme qui, naguère, vivait dans l'aisance. Partout ruine et abandon ; les plantes parasites ont envahi le sol ; les murs ont des brèches qui livrent passage à gens et bêtes. Quel est la cause de cette décadence ? Il le sait bien et il s'est promis d'en profiter lui-même et d'en faire profiter ses lecteurs. Les versets 33 et 34 se retrouvent, avec de légères variantes, dans 6.10-11.

      9 All this have I seen, and applied my mind to every work that is done under the sun. There is a time in which one man has power over another to his hurt.
      10 So I saw the wicked buried. Indeed they came also from holiness. They went and were forgotten in the city where they did this. This also is vanity.
      11 Because sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily, therefore the heart of the sons of men is fully set in them to do evil.
