1 à 3 Les rebelles.

Pourquoi ? Les pourquoi de Dieu sont redoutables ; ils portent sur quelque chose de ténébreux (Genèse 4.6).

Les nations. L'hébreu Gojim désigne toujours les païens, en opposition au peuple de Dieu.

Vains complots, littéralement : ils méditent la vanité, des choses qui n'ont pas de raison d'être. Ce mot explique le pourquoi indigné du commencement.

On nous décrit ici le destin des adversaires de Christ.

Le monde ici-bas étant régi par Satan, les impies de tous bords, partis ou pensées, sont menés par celui-ci afin de s'opposer à la cause divine. Les dirigeants d'ici bas sont des plus actifs.

Les vérités et préceptes du Christianisme sont contre les projets ambitieux et les convoitises du monde. Il est même dit que tout converge vers cette opposition. On voudrait faire taire les murmures de la conscience et les rappels des commandements divins. On voudrait qu'ils ne soient pas perçus et les éloigner le plus loin possible.

Ces ennemis ne peuvent montrer aucune disposition en faveur d'un gouvernement de justice et de sainteté qui, s'il était admis par tous, apporterait littéralement le ciel ici bas. Ils ne peuvent espérer qu'en la chute d'un royaume opposé aussi puissant.

Le Seigneur Jésus a tout pouvoir dans les cieux comme sur terre ; IL est la Tête de toutes choses dans l'église, malgré les efforts incessants de ses ennemis. Le trône de Christ est installé dans son église, c'est à dire, dans le cœur de tous les croyants.
