Habite le pays. On pourrait traduire aussi : habite la terre, cette terre d'Israël, la seule où le psalmiste se sente à sa place, puisque toutes les autres terres sont consacrées à des dieux étrangers (Psaumes 36.12 ; 1Samuel 26.19).

L'irritation ou le découragement pouvaient pousser plus d'un Israélite pieux à chercher le succès ailleurs que dans son pays. David rappelle que le vrai refuge du croyant est la fidélité de l'Eternel, dont il faut savoir discerner et rechercher avec ardeur les preuves nombreuses (repais-toi). Trouvant ainsi en Dieu sa joie (Psaumes 16.5), il obtiendra, comme par surcroît, les demandes de son cœur (verset 4).
