On peut traduire aussi : il fut fortifié dans la foi. Mais par la foi fait mieux antithèse à par incrédulité.

Abraham donna gloire à Dieu en montrant une confiance inébranlable en la fidélité de Dieu.

"Lorsqu'un homme se confie à un autre, c'est qu'il le tient pour un homme juste et honnête. De même quand l'âme croit fermement à la parole de Dieu, c'est qu'elle tient Dieu pour véridique, bon et juste ; elle lui rend ainsi le plus grand honneur qu'elle puisse lui rendre ; elle lui donne raison, elle lui abandonne ses droits ; elle glorifie le nom de Dieu et laisse Dieu agir envers elle comme il veut. Or, quand Dieu voit une âme lui attribuer toute vérité et l'honorer ainsi par sa foi, il l'honore à son tour, la regarde aussi comme fidèle et véridique à cause de cette foi." Luther.
