2 Samuel 2.1

1 à 4 Lors même que les promesses divines lui assuraient la succession de Saül, David consulte l'Eternel pour savoir si le moment est venu de prendre possession de la royauté et quelle doit être la résidence d'où il établira son pouvoir.

Hébron était dès le temps des patriarches l'une des villes les plus importantes du midi de la Palestine. C'était une ville sacerdotale.

Après la mort de Saül, beaucoup rejoignirent David, à Tsiklag, 1Chroniques 12:22 ; le futur roi plaçait toute sa confiance en Dieu, ce Dernier lui ayant promis le royaume, selon Sa Volonté, au Temps marqué. Une ferme assurance de l'accomplissement des promesses divines, ne peut que motiver les hommes pieux !

David devait penser de la sorte : « si je suis choisi pour porter la couronne, sans suivre l'Éternel, alors je n'aboutirai à rien ; je ferai donc tout ce que Dieu me prescrit ». Cette bonne disposition du cœur de David, a en fait contribué à son élection au trône ; il en est de même pour tous ceux qui partagent la même conviction, quand Dieu les a choisis pour tenir un poste particulier.

Dans tous nos voyages et nos déplacements, il est vraiment rassurant de voir Dieu nous tracer la route ; si par la foi et la prière, nous Le plaçons devant nous, ce ne sera que bénéfique !

Dieu, selon Sa promesse, a dirigé David sur son chemin. David s'est élevé graduellement en puissance : il en est ainsi pour le Royaume du Messie, celui du « Fils de David », qui s'établit graduellement ; Il est le Seigneur de toutes choses, bien que nous ne puissions pas encore bien discerner tous les évènements qui sont sous Sa domination !
