Après avoir infligé le terrible jugement à Israël, suite au péché de David sur le dénombrement, Dieu précise maintenant l'endroit où le temple devait être construit ; David était alors vraiment motivé par les préparatifs de ce travail conséquent. Il ne serait pas celui qui devait construire cet édifice, mais il fit tout ce qui était en son pouvoir pour préparer, avant sa mort, le maximum d'éléments nécessaires à sa construction.

Nous devons accomplir, de toutes nos forces, corps et âme, avant notre mort, un maximum de tâches pour Dieu, car dans l'au-delà, ce type de consécration sera terminé. Quand le Seigneur refuse de nous employer dans les services qui nous sont à cœur, nous ne devons pas être découragés ni oisifs ; accomplissons plutôt ce dont nous sommes capables, dans un esprit d'humilité.

      25 So David gave to Ornan six hundred shekels of gold by weight for the place.
      26 David built an altar to Yahweh there, and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings, and called on Yahweh; and he answered him from the sky by fire on the altar of burnt offering.
      27 Yahweh commanded the angel; and he put up his sword again into its sheath.
      28 At that time, when David saw that Yahweh had answered him in the threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite, then he sacrificed there.
