Salutation
1
Paul, called to be an apostle of Jesus Christ through the will of God, and our brother Sosthenes,

to the assembly of God which is at Corinth; those who are sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints, with all who call on the name of our Lord Jesus Christ in every place, both theirs and ours:

Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

I always thank my God concerning you, for the grace of God which was given you in Christ Jesus;
5
that in everything you were enriched in him, in all speech and all knowledge;
6
even as the testimony of Christ was confirmed in you:

so that you come behind in no gift; waiting for the revelation of our Lord Jesus Christ;
8
who will also confirm you until the end, blameless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ.
9
God is faithful, through whom you were called into the fellowship of his Son, Jesus Christ, our Lord.

Now I beg you, brothers, through the name of our Lord, Jesus Christ, that you all speak the same thing and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfected together in the same mind and in the same judgment.
11
For it has been reported to me concerning you, my brothers, by those who are from Chloe's household, that there are contentions among you.
12
Now I mean this, that each one of you says, "I follow Paul," "I follow Apollos," "I follow Cephas," and, "I follow Christ."
13
Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Or were you baptized into the name of Paul?
14
I thank God that I baptized none of you, except Crispus and Gaius,
15
so that no one should say that I had baptized you into my own name.
16
(I also baptized the household of Stephanas; besides them, I don't know whether I baptized any other.)
17
For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the Good News--not in wisdom of words, so that the cross of Christ wouldn't be made void.

For the word of the cross is foolishness to those who are dying, but to us who are saved it is the power of God.
19
For it is written, "I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, I will bring the discernment of the discerning to nothing."

Where is the wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the lawyer of this world? Hasn't God made foolish the wisdom of this world?
21
For seeing that in the wisdom of God, the world through its wisdom didn't know God, it was God's good pleasure through the foolishness of the preaching to save those who believe.
22
For Jews ask for signs, Greeks seek after wisdom,
23
but we preach Christ crucified; a stumbling block to Jews, and foolishness to Greeks,
24
but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ is the power of God and the wisdom of God.
25
Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men.
26
For you see your calling, brothers, that not many are wise according to the flesh, not many mighty, and not many noble;
27
but God chose the foolish things of the world that he might put to shame those who are wise. God chose the weak things of the world, that he might put to shame the things that are strong;
28
and God chose the lowly things of the world, and the things that are despised, and the things that are not, that he might bring to nothing the things that are:
29
that no flesh should boast before God.
30
But of him, you are in Christ Jesus, who was made to us wisdom from God, and righteousness and sanctification, and redemption:
31
that, according as it is written, "He who boasts, let him boast in the Lord."

Moi, Paul, j’ai été appelé à être apôtre du Christ Jésus parce que Dieu l’a voulu. Avec Sostène notre frère,

j’écris à l’Église de Dieu qui est à Corinthe, à ceux qui appartiennent à Dieu par le Christ Jésus. Dieu les appelle à vivre pour lui, avec tous ceux qui, partout, font appel au nom de notre Seigneur Jésus-Christ, leur Seigneur et le nôtre.

Que Dieu notre Père et le Seigneur Jésus-Christ vous bénissent et vous donnent la paix !
Les bienfaits reçus en Christ

Sans cesse, je remercie Dieu à votre sujet, à cause des bienfaits qu’il vous a donnés par le Christ Jésus.
5
Oui, par le Christ, Dieu vous a donné toutes les richesses, toutes celles de la parole et toutes celles de la connaissance.
6
On vous a annoncé le Christ, et vous y croyez avec beaucoup de force.
7
Alors maintenant, aucun don de Dieu ne vous manque, à vous qui attendez que notre Seigneur Jésus-Christ paraisse.
8
C’est lui qui vous rendra forts jusqu’au bout. Ainsi personne ne pourra rien vous reprocher, le jour où le Seigneur Jésus-Christ viendra.
9
Il est fidèle, le Dieu qui vous a appelés à vivre unis avec son Fils, Jésus-Christ notre Seigneur.
Divisions dans l'Église

Frères et sœurs chrétiens, au nom de notre Seigneur Jésus-Christ, je vous le demande, soyez tous d’accord entre vous. Parmi vous, pas de divisions ! Soyez très unis, ayez un même esprit et une même pensée.

Oui, mes frères et mes sœurs, les gens de la famille de Chloé m’ont appris qu’il y a des disputes entre vous.
12
Voici ce que je veux dire : chacun de vous affirme des choses différentes. L’un dit : « Moi, j’appartiens à Paul. » L’autre dit : « Moi, à Apollos. » Un autre encore : « Moi, j’appartiens à Pierre. » Et un autre dit : « Moi, au Christ. »

Est-ce que le Christ est divisé ? Est-ce que c’est Paul qui a été cloué sur une croix pour vous ? Est-ce que c’est au nom de Paul que vous avez été baptisés ?

Je remercie Dieu, parce que je n’ai baptisé aucun de vous, sauf Crispus et Gaïus.
15
Alors personne ne peut dire que vous avez été baptisés en mon nom.

Ah ! si, j’ai baptisé aussi la famille de Stéphanas. En tout cas, je ne crois pas avoir baptisé quelqu’un d’autre.

Le Christ ne m’a pas envoyé baptiser, mais il m’a envoyé annoncer la Bonne Nouvelle sans me servir des paroles de la sagesse humaine. Ainsi, la mort du Christ sur la croix ne perd pas son pouvoir.

Oui, le message de la croix est une folie pour ceux qui perdent leur vie loin de Dieu. Mais pour ceux que Dieu sauve, c’est-à-dire pour nous, il est puissance de Dieu.

Dans les Livres Saints, on lit : « Je détruirai la sagesse des sages et je rejetterai l’intelligence des gens intelligents. »
20
Qu’est-ce que le sage peut dire encore ? Et l’homme instruit ? Et celui qui discute bien dans ce monde ? Qu’est-ce qu’ils peuvent dire encore ? Dieu a montré que la sagesse de ce monde est une folie.

En effet, le monde avec sa sagesse n’a pas reconnu Dieu en voyant la sagesse de Dieu. Alors Dieu a décidé de sauver ceux qui croient grâce au message que nous annonçons, et ce message semble fou.

Les Juifs demandent des signes étonnants, et ceux qui ne sont pas juifs cherchent la sagesse.

Mais nous, nous annonçons un Messie cloué sur une croix. Les Juifs ne peuvent absolument pas accepter cela, et ceux qui ne sont pas juifs pensent que c’est une folie.
24
Mais pour ceux que Dieu appelle, Juifs et non-Juifs, le Christ est la puissance de Dieu et la sagesse de Dieu.
25
Oui, la folie de Dieu est plus sage que la sagesse des hommes, et la faiblesse de Dieu est plus forte que la force des hommes.

Frères et sœurs, regardez qui vous êtes, vous qui avez reçu l’appel de Dieu. Parmi vous, il n’y a pas beaucoup de sages du point de vue humain, pas beaucoup de gens puissants, pas beaucoup de gens importants.
27
Mais pour couvrir de honte les sages, Dieu a choisi ce qui semble fou dans le monde. Pour couvrir de honte ce qui est fort, Dieu a choisi ce qui est faible dans le monde.
28
Pour détruire ce qui est important, Dieu a choisi ce qui est petit dans le monde. Il a choisi ce qu’on méprise, ce qui n’est rien du tout.
29
Dieu a fait cela pour que personne ne puisse se vanter devant lui.
30
C’est lui qui vous a unis au Christ Jésus, et le Christ est devenu pour nous la sagesse qui vient de Dieu. Par lui, Dieu nous rend justes, il nous choisit pour lui et il nous libère du péché.
31
Alors, comme les Livres Saints le disent : « Si quelqu’un veut se vanter, qu’il se vante à cause du Seigneur. »
