On a vu à 1Corinthiens 7 que Paul distingue soigneusement ce qu'il ordonne ou conseille, de ce qu'il a reçu comme un commandement du Seigneur, soit par l'Ecriture, soit par révélation.

Or, ici on s'est demandé dans quel sens il entendait ce mot, et la difficulté de l'expliquer a fait naître dans les divers manuscrits diverses variantes.

Ainsi, on lit dans le texte reçu : des commandements du Seigneur ; ailleurs : de Dieu ; ailleurs : un commandement du Seigneur ; ailleurs enfin : les choses que je vous dis sont du Seigneur.

En tout cas, il en appelle à l'autorité divine, et la trouve, soit dans la loi qu'il vient de rappeler concernant la femme, (verset 34) soit dans sa propre inspiration, bien supérieure à celle de ceux qui prétendaient être prophètes ou spirituels.
