La première sentence de ce verset, prise en un sens absolu, ne serait pas exacte ; il y a d'autres péchés auxquels le corps participe, l'intempérance dans le manger et le boire, par exemple, et même la colère ; mais aucun ne le souille autant que l'impudicité, et la seconde partie du verset, expliquée par ce qui précède, (versets 16,17) donne la mesure de la première.

Puis, verset 19 indique, à l'extrême opposé, le lien vivant de la communion du chrétien avec Dieu. Ainsi la pensée de l'apôtre monte, grandit, se généralise jusqu'à verset 20, qui touche à l'éternelle destination du racheté de Christ.

      20 He has taken a bag of money with him. He will come home at the full moon."
      21 With persuasive words, she led him astray. With the flattering of her lips, she seduced him.
      22 He followed her immediately, as an ox goes to the slaughter, as a fool stepping into a noose.
      23 Until an arrow strikes through his liver, as a bird hurries to the snare, and doesn't know that it will cost his life.
      24 Now therefore, sons, listen to me. Pay attention to the words of my mouth.
      25 Don't let your heart turn to her ways. Don't go astray in her paths,
      26 for she has thrown down many wounded. Yes, all her slain are a mighty army.
      27 Her house is the way to Sheol , going down to the rooms of death.

      Proverbes 9

      16 "Whoever is simple, let him turn in here." as for him who is void of understanding, she says to him,
      17 "Stolen water is sweet. Food eaten in secret is pleasant."
      18 But he doesn't know that the dead are there, that her guests are in the depths of Sheol .
