World English Bible Seeing you have purified your souls in your obedience to the truth through the Spirit in sincere brotherly affection, love one another from the heart fervently:

1 :22 à 2 :3 Amour fraternel et croissance spirituelle.

Dans les versets précédents, l'apôtre a exprimé la pensée que nous sommes enfants du Père céleste. Il en conclut (donc) que nous devons nous aimer comme des frères.

La purification de l'âme, siège des affections, la destruction de tous ses penchants égoïstes et impurs, n'a lieu que par l'obéissance pratique à la vérité divine, reçue dans le cœur. (Le texte de quelques majuscules ajoute : par l'Esprit)

Et c'est ce qui seul rend possible un vrai amour fraternel. Pour aimer selon Dieu il faut aimer en Dieu. Lui seul nous rend capables de nous aimer les uns les autres ardemment, d'un amour qui persévère dans son intensité, (Matthieu 24.12 ; Jean 13.1) qui provienne du fond d'un cœur dépris de lui-même, et qui soit absolument sans hypocrisie. (Comparer 1Jean 4.10 et suivants, note)

Le texte reçu (Sin., C) porte : d'un cœur pur. Cette épithète n'étant pas authentique, il y a simplement dans le grec : "Aimez-vous les uns les autres, de cœur, ardemment."
