Ce cri séditieux avait déjà servi de mot de ralliement aux Ephraïmites, lors de la révolte de Séba (2Samuel 20.1).

Quelle part avons-nous avec David ? Quel motif avons-nous de rester attachés à cette maison royale ?

Nous n'avons point d'héritage... Nous n'avons pas avec le fils d'Isaï le lien d'une descendance commune.

Pourvois à ta maison : occupe-toi désormais des gens de ta tribu. La véritable cause du schisme, l'antipathie du peuple du nord pour la maison de David et la tribu de Juda, perce à chaque mot de ce cri des tribus.

Les enfants d'Israël, dans leurs propos, mentionnèrent David de manière inconvenante. Qu'ils sont bien vite oubliés, les hommes pieux, et leurs loyaux services envers le peuple !

Ces considérations devraient nous inciter davantage à nous humilier devant Celui qui permet de nous faire supporter nos diverses pertes et épreuves, ici-bas ; Il en est en effet l'Auteur, nos frères n'en étant éventuellement, que les instruments : ne méditons aucune vengeance !

Roboam et son entourage endurcirent leur cœur, à la Parole de l'Éternel. Quand nous discernons la pensée divine, nous devons bien admettre, combien elle est différente de la nôtre. Si nous sommes assurés d'avoir la faveur du ciel, nul ne pourra alors, nous porter atteinte !
