On peut voir par 28.3 que Saül condamnait la divination, c'est ce qui explique la manière dont Samuel compare avec ce crime la faute que Saül vient de commettre.

Puisque tu as rejeté... : Tu n'es plus l'homme propre à exécuter les desseins de l'Eternel. Ces mots n'impliquent pas la destitution immédiate de Saül ; ils annoncent la fin malheureuse de son règne et le rejet de sa maison (13.14).
