She who has many children languishes.6 "Yahweh kills, and makes alive. He brings down to Sheol , and brings up.7 Yahweh makes poor, and makes rich. He brings low, he also lifts up.8 He raises up the poor out of the dust. He lifts up the needy from the dunghill, To make them sit with princes, and inherit the throne of glory. For the pillars of the earth are Yahweh's. He has set the world on them.9 He will keep the feet of his holy ones, but the wicked shall be put to silence in darkness; for no man shall prevail by strength.10 Those who strive with Yahweh shall be broken to pieces. He will thunder against them in the sky. "Yahweh will judge the ends of the earth. He will give strength to his king, and exalt the horn of his anointed."11 Elkanah went to Ramah to his house. 12 Now the sons of Eli were base men; they didn't know Yahweh.13 The custom of the priests with the people was that when any man offered sacrifice, the priest's servant came, while the flesh was boiling, with a fork of three teeth in his hand;14 and he struck it into the pan, or kettle, or caldron, or pot; all that the fork brought up the priest took therewith. So they did in Shiloh to all the Israelites who came there.15 Yes, before they burnt the fat, the priest's servant came, and said to the man who sacrificed, "Give meat to roast for the priest; for he will not accept boiled meat from you, but raw."16 If the man said to him, "Let the fat be burned first, and then take as much as your soul desires"; then he would say, "No, but you shall give it to me now; and if not, I will take it by force."17 The sin of the young men was very great before Yahweh; for the men despised the offering of Yahweh.18 But Samuel ministered before Yahweh, being a child, clothed with a linen ephod.La famille de Samuel
19 Moreover his mother made him a little robe, and brought it to him from year to year, when she came up with her husband to offer the yearly sacrifice.20 Eli blessed Elkanah and his wife, and said, "Yahweh give you seed of this woman for the petition which was asked of Yahweh." 22 Now Eli was very old; and he heard all that his sons did to all Israel, and how that they lay with the women who served at the door of the Tent of Meeting.23 He said to them, "Why do you do such things? for I hear of your evil dealings from all this people.24 No, my sons; for it is no good report that I hear: you make Yahweh's people disobey.25 If one man sin against another, God shall judge him; but if a man sin against Yahweh, who shall entreat for him?" 27 A man of God came to Eli, and said to him, "Thus says Yahweh, 'Did I reveal myself to the house of your father, when they were in Egypt in bondage to Pharaoh's house?28 Did I choose him out of all the tribes of Israel to be my priest, to go up to my altar, to burn incense, to wear an ephod before me? Did I give to the house of your father all the offerings of the children of Israel made by fire?29 Why do you kick at my sacrifice and at my offering, which I have commanded in my habitation, and honor your sons above me, to make yourselves fat with the best of all the offerings of Israel my people?'30 "Therefore Yahweh, the God of Israel, says, 'I said indeed that your house, and the house of your father, should walk before me forever.' But now Yahweh says, 'Be it far from me; for those who honor me I will honor, and those who despise me shall be lightly esteemed.31 Behold, the days come, that I will cut off your arm, and the arm of your father's house, that there shall not be an old man in your house.32 You shall see the affliction of my habitation, in all the wealth which I shall give Israel; and there shall not be an old man in your house forever.33 The man of yours, whom I shall not cut off from my altar, shall consume your eyes, and grieve your heart; and all the increase of your house shall die in the flower of their age.34 "'This shall be the sign to you, that shall come on your two sons, on Hophni and Phinehas: in one day they shall both die.35 I will raise me up a faithful priest, that shall do according to that which is in my heart and in my mind. I will build him a sure house; and he shall walk before my anointed forever.36 It shall happen, that everyone who is left in your house shall come and bow down to him for a piece of silver and a loaf of bread, and shall say, "Please put me into one of the priests' offices, that I may eat a morsel of bread."'" -

1 Anne prie en disant : « Grâce au SEIGNEUR, mon cœur est plein de joie. Grâce au SEIGNEUR, je relève la tête, je peux rire de mes ennemis. Le SEIGNEUR m’a sauvée ! Je suis dans la joie.2 Le SEIGNEUR seul est saint. Personne ne nous protège comme notre Dieu, notre solide rocher. À part toi, SEIGNEUR, il n’y a pas de Dieu.3 Vous qui parlez avec orgueil, arrêtez ! Ne lancez plus de paroles méprisantes ! Car le SEIGNEUR est un Dieu qui sait tout, qui juge les actions humaines.4 L’arc des courageux combattants se brise, mais les gens faibles retrouvent des forces.5 Ceux qui ne manquaient de rien cherchent du travail pour manger. Mais ceux qui avaient faim n’ont plus besoin de travailler. La femme sans enfant met au monde sept fois. Mais la mère d’enfants nombreux ne peut plus en avoir.6 Le SEIGNEUR fait mourir et fait vivre. Il fait descendre dans le monde des morts et en fait remonter.7 Le SEIGNEUR donne pauvreté et richesse. Il met au dernier rang, mais aussi au premier.8 Il redresse le faible qui traînait dans la poussière, il relève le pauvre de son tas d’ordures. Il les fait asseoir parmi les notables et leur accorde une place d’honneur. Car le SEIGNEUR est le maître de toute la terre, c’est lui qui l’a fixée solidement.9 Il protège ses amis fidèles, mais les gens mauvais meurent dans la nuit. Car ce n’est pas par sa force qu’un homme est victorieux.10 Du haut du ciel, le SEIGNEUR fait éclater le tonnerre pour écraser ses ennemis. Le SEIGNEUR juge le monde entier. Il donne la puissance au roi de son peuple, il augmente le pouvoir du roi qu’il a choisi. »11 Ensuite, Elcana retourne chez lui à Rama. Mais le petit Samuel reste à Silo pour servir le SEIGNEUR, sous la conduite du prêtre Héli.Les fils d'Héli
12 Les fils d’Héli ne valent rien et ils ne reconnaissent pas l’autorité du SEIGNEUR.13 Ils sont prêtres, et pourtant, voici comment ils agissent : quand quelqu’un offre un sacrifice, le serviteur du prêtre arrive au moment où on fait cuire la viande. Il tient dans sa main la fourchette à trois dents.14 Il pique la viande dans le récipient : marmite, bassine ou plat en terre. Il prend pour le prêtre tout ce que la fourchette ramène. Les fils d’Héli agissent ainsi avec tous les Israélites qui viennent au lieu saint de Silo.15 De plus, avant qu’on brûle la graisse de l’animal, le serviteur du prêtre vient quelquefois trouver l’homme qui offre le sacrifice. Il lui dit : « Donne-moi de la viande à rôtir pour le prêtre. Il n’acceptera pas de toi de la viande cuite, mais seulement de la viande crue. »16 Si l’homme lui répond : « Il faut d’abord brûler la graisse, ensuite, tu prendras ce que tu veux », le serviteur du prêtre lui dit : « Non, donne-moi cette viande maintenant, sinon je vais la prendre de force. »17 Ainsi, le péché des fils d’Héli envers le SEIGNEUR est très grave. En effet, ils traitent sans respect ce qu’on offre au SEIGNEUR.18 Le petit Samuel est vêtu d’un pagne de lin. Il accomplit son service devant le SEIGNEUR.La famille de Samuel
19 Chaque année, la mère de Samuel lui coud un petit vêtement. Elle l’apporte à son fils, quand elle va à Silo avec son mari, pour offrir le sacrifice de l’année.20 Héli bénit Elcana et sa femme. Il dit à Elcana : « Que le SEIGNEUR te donne d’autres enfants de cette femme ! Ils remplaceront celui qu’elle a donné au SEIGNEUR. » Ensuite, Elcana et Anne retournent chez eux.21 Le SEIGNEUR montre sa bonté pour Anne. Elle est enceinte plusieurs fois et met au monde trois fils et deux filles. Le petit Samuel grandit devant le SEIGNEUR.Héli adresse des reproches à ses fils
22 Héli est devenu très vieux. Il entend raconter comment ses fils agissent envers les Israélites. On lui dit aussi qu’ils couchent avec les femmes qui sont de service à l’entrée de la tente de la rencontre.23 Alors il leur dit : « Quoi ? Tout le monde parle de votre mauvaise conduite. Pourquoi est-ce que vous faites des choses pareilles ?24 Arrêtez, mes fils ! 27 Un homme de Dieu vient trouver Héli et lui dit : « Voici ce que dit le SEIGNEUR : Quand tes ancêtres étaient en Égypte, esclaves du roi d’Égypte, je me suis fait connaître à eux,28 j’ai choisi ton ancêtre Aaron parmi toutes les tribus d’Israël pour qu’il devienne mon prêtre. Il devait présenter les sacrifices sur mon autel, offrir l’encens et me consulter. Je lui ai même donné, à lui et à ceux qui allaient naître de lui, une part des sacrifices offerts par les Israélites.29 Or, vous traitez sans respect les sacrifices et les offrandes que j’ai commandé de me présenter en tout temps. Pourquoi donc ? Vous remplissez vos ventres des meilleurs morceaux pris sur toutes les offrandes d’Israël, mon peuple. Pourquoi ? Pourquoi est-ce que tu honores tes fils plus que moi ?30 Voici donc ce que je déclare, moi le SEIGNEUR, Dieu d’Israël : J’avais dit que ta famille et la famille de ton père seraient mes prêtres pour toujours. Mais maintenant, j’affirme avec force que c’est fini. En effet, j’honore ceux qui m’honorent, mais ceux qui me méprisent seront couverts de honte à leur tour.31 Bientôt, je vais enlever de ta famille et de la famille de ton père tous ceux qui sont en pleine force. Et il n’y aura plus de gens âgés chez toi.32 En tout temps, tu vivras dans la peur. Tout se passera bien pour le peuple d’Israël, mais dans ta famille, les gens ne vivront pas longtemps.33 Pourtant, je garderai quelqu’un de ta famille près de mon autel. Mais ce sera pour brûler tes yeux de larmes et pour te remplir de désespoir. Et tous les autres hommes de ta famille mourront.34 « Ce qui va arriver à tes fils, Hofni et Pinhas, te prouvera ce que je dis : ils mourront tous les deux le même jour.35 Ensuite, je me choisirai un prêtre sûr. Il agira comme je le veux et comme je le désire. Je lui donnerai des successeurs sûrs. Ils seront prêtres à côté du roi que je choisirai.36 Celui qui restera en vie dans ta famille ira se mettre à genoux devant le prêtre. Il lui demandera une pièce d’argent ou de la nourriture en disant : “Je t’en prie, donne-moi n’importe quel travail à faire auprès des prêtres, pour que j’aie quelque chose à manger.” » -

For the pillars of the earth are Yahweh's. He has set the world on them.9 He will keep the feet of his holy ones, but the wicked shall be put to silence in darkness; for no man shall prevail by strength.10 Those who strive with Yahweh shall be broken to pieces. He will thunder against them in the sky. "Yahweh will judge the ends of the earth. He will give strength to his king, and exalt the horn of his anointed."11 Elkanah went to Ramah to his house. 12 Now the sons of Eli were base men; they didn't know Yahweh.13 The custom of the priests with the people was that when any man offered sacrifice, the priest's servant came, while the flesh was boiling, with a fork of three teeth in his hand;14 and he struck it into the pan, or kettle, or caldron, or pot; all that the fork brought up the priest took therewith. So they did in Shiloh to all the Israelites who came there.15 Yes, before they burnt the fat, the priest's servant came, and said to the man who sacrificed, "Give meat to roast for the priest; for he will not accept boiled meat from you, but raw."16 If the man said to him, "Let the fat be burned first, and then take as much as your soul desires"; then he would say, "No, but you shall give it to me now; and if not, I will take it by force."17 The sin of the young men was very great before Yahweh; for the men despised the offering of Yahweh.18 But Samuel ministered before Yahweh, being a child, clothed with a linen ephod.La famille de Samuel
19 Moreover his mother made him a little robe, and brought it to him from year to year, when she came up with her husband to offer the yearly sacrifice.20 Eli blessed Elkanah and his wife, and said, "Yahweh give you seed of this woman for the petition which was asked of Yahweh." 27 A man of God came to Eli, and said to him, "Thus says Yahweh, 'Did I reveal myself to the house of your father, when they were in Egypt in bondage to Pharaoh's house?28 Did I choose him out of all the tribes of Israel to be my priest, to go up to my altar, to burn incense, to wear an ephod before me? Did I give to the house of your father all the offerings of the children of Israel made by fire?29 Why do you kick at my sacrifice and at my offering, which I have commanded in my habitation, and honor your sons above me, to make yourselves fat with the best of all the offerings of Israel my people?'30 "Therefore Yahweh, the God of Israel, says, 'I said indeed that your house, and the house of your father, should walk before me forever.' But now Yahweh says, 'Be it far from me; for those who honor me I will honor, and those who despise me shall be lightly esteemed.31 Behold, the days come, that I will cut off your arm, and the arm of your father's house, that there shall not be an old man in your house.32 You shall see the affliction of my habitation, in all the wealth which I shall give Israel; and there shall not be an old man in your house forever.33 The man of yours, whom I shall not cut off from my altar, shall consume your eyes, and grieve your heart; and all the increase of your house shall die in the flower of their age.34 "'This shall be the sign to you, that shall come on your two sons, on Hophni and Phinehas: in one day they shall both die.35 I will raise me up a faithful priest, that shall do according to that which is in my heart and in my mind. I will build him a sure house; and he shall walk before my anointed forever.36 It shall happen, that everyone who is left in your house shall come and bow down to him for a piece of silver and a loaf of bread, and shall say, "Please put me into one of the priests' offices, that I may eat a morsel of bread."'"
