World English Bible If one man sin against another, God shall judge him; but if a man sin against Yahweh, who shall entreat for him?" Notwithstanding, they didn't listen to the voice of their father, because Yahweh intended to kill them.

Lorsqu'un homme pèche contre un autre homme, il y a une autorité qui intervient entre les deux et donne à chacun son droit. Cette autorité, c'est Dieu ou tel juge qui est son représentant sur la terre (Exode 21.6, note). Il est des péchés qui s'adressent directement à l'homme, et seulement indirectement à Dieu comme représentant du bien absolu ; mais il en est d'autres qui atteignent directement la personne divine, comme la profanation de son sanctuaire, ou l'appropriation de ce qui lui revient sur les sacrifices, ou la profanation du sabbat, etc. Dieu dans ce cas-ci se trouve être à la fois l'offensé et le juge. Nul ne saurait arrêter son bras, en s'interposant, comme arbitre, entre lui et le coupable.

Mais ils n'obéirent point... L'avertissement paternel n'aurait pu agir sur eux qu'au moyen d'une action puissante et décisive de l'Esprit de Dieu. Mais cette action n'eut pas lieu, parce que déjà la mesure était pleine et que Dieu avait résolu leur perte.

Voulait les faire mourir : comparez Exode 4.21. Quel contraste entre cette réprimande si faible et l'énergique intervention qu'aurait dû provoquer de la part du souverain sacrificateur une pareille conduite !
