2 Samuel 15.24

Ils déposèrent l'arche. Ils s'arrêtèrent pour attendre que tout le peuple de la ville qui voulait suivre David eût aussi passé le Cédron, et pour fermer la marche.

Abiathar montait. Peut-être n'arrive-t-il qu'à ce moment, ce qui pourrait être un indice de son hésitation entre David et Absalom, comme plus tard lorsqu'il paraît s'être décidé pour Adonija contre Salomon (1Rois 2.26-27). Peut-être aussi ces mots signifient-ils qu'il montait en avant du cortège pour ouvrir la marche, comme l'autre sacrificateur devait la fermer.

David veillait soigneusement à ce que l'arche soit en sûreté. Il est bon de nous sentir davantage concernés par la prospérité de l'église, que par nos propres affaires ; il nous faut préférer le succès de l'évangile, avant nos richesses personnelles, notre confort et notre sécurité.

Observez avec quel plaisir et quelle soumission, David mentionne la volonté de l'Éternel ! Il est de notre intérêt, aussi bien que de notre devoir, d'approuver avec joie les décisions divines, quels que soient les aléas que nous puissions rencontrer.

Sachons discerner la « Main de Dieu » dans tous les événements ici-bas ; ne soyons pas effrayés par le cours des réalités, étant convaincus que le Seigneur régit toutes choses. Le péché de David était « constamment devant lui », Psaume 51:3 ; jamais le moral du roi n'avait été aussi bas. Ce dernier n'avait jamais ainsi pleuré, même quand Saül le poursuivait ; une conscience blessée ne procure que trouble et accablement, Psaume 38:4.
