World English Bible For this cause I also suffer these things. Yet I am not ashamed, for I know him whom I have believed, and I am persuaded that he is able to guard that which I have committed to him against that day.

Ou plutôt : "Je sais à qui je me suis confié." De là son assurance au sujet de son "dépôt".

Ce dépôt, c'est celui de son salut éternel (comparez 2Timothée 1.14 et 1Timothée 6.20) Il sait qu'il le retrouvera entre les mains de son Dieu-Sauveur, qui le lui garde jusqu'à ce jour-là, c'est-à-dire jusqu'au jour du retour de Christ. (2Timothée 1.18 ; 4.8 ; 2Thessaloniciens 1.10, note.)

- Quelques interprètes pensent que Paul entend par son dépôt, non pas sa foi ou son salut, mais son apostolat, dont il doit rendre compte. Mais ce sens est beaucoup moins en harmonie avec la pensée de l'apôtre, dont voici l'expression complète : "Je sais à qui je me suis confié, et je suis persuadé qu'il (Dieu) est puissant pour garder mon dépôt (que je lui ai confié) jusqu'à cette journée-là."
