En tout temps, que les circonstances te paraissent favorables ou fâcheuses, que tu y sois disposé ou que tu y répugnes, que l'on t'entende volontiers ou à contrecœur, prêche la Parole.

Que dirait donc l'apôtre d'un prédicateur qui laisserait lier sa parole à certains lieux, certains jours, certaines heures, certaines formes, en dehors desquels sa mission ne serait plus légitime et dans le bon ordre !

Toute cette activité, qui exige tant de fidélité et de force, ne doit jamais s'accomplir dans un zèle amer, mais avec des sentiments de compassion et de douceur pour ceux qui errent. Et il ne s'agit pas, afin de les ramener et de les édifier, de faire sur eux une passagère impression, mais de les éclairer par l'instruction. D'autres traduisent avec doctrine, selon la vérité de l'Evangile. (2Timothée 4.3)
