World English Bible When they heard these things, they held their peace, and glorified God, saying, "Then God has also granted to the Gentiles repentance to life!"

Les auditeurs de Pierre sont convaincus ; ils se calmèrent ou se turent, (Luc 14.4) ils cessèrent de discuter contre lui ; (verset 2) ils se réjouirent des faits qu'il leur avait racontés, ils en glorifièrent Dieu (A, E portent glorifiaient) et ils reconnurent que Dieu avait donné même aux païens (grec) la repentance pour la vie.

La repentance, qui est déjà, comme le mot l'indique, une transformation morale, appelle la régénération qu'opère le SaintEsprit ; (Matthieu 3.2, 1re note) elle a pour fruit la vie, la vie de l'âme, la vie éternelle.

- Malheureusement les auditeurs de Pierre n'étaient pas tout le parti judéo-chrétien ; ce parti, très nombreux alors dans l'Eglise, persista dans son esprit étroit et sectaire.

Nous le retrouverons à Actes 15, et il sera pour l'apôtre Paul un des plus grands obstacles dans son ministère.
