Ils y trouvèrent des gens à l’esprit plus ouvert que les Juifs de Thessalonique et qui leur témoignèrent de meilleurs sentiments. Ils accueillirent le message de l’Évangile avec beaucoup d’empressement ; chaque jour, ils étudiaient les Écritures pour vérifier si ce qu’on leur disait était conforme à ce qui était écrit.

World English Bible Now these were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of the mind, examining the Scriptures daily to see whether these things were so.

Pour savoir si la prédication de Paul était en harmonie avec les Ecritures.

En cela ces Juifs de Bérée montrèrent des sentiments plus nobles que ceux de Thessalonique. Il faut une vraie noblesse d'esprit pour se mettre au dessus des préjugés et savoir écouter, examiner et recevoir la Parole de vérité.

C'est ainsi que cette Parole produit la conviction et la foi. (verset 12) Quel contraste avec l'aveugle fanatisme des Juifs de Thessalonique ! (versets 5,13)

Notre récit montre que Paul, malgré son autorité apostolique, n'exigeait point que ses auditeurs le crussent sur parole, mais approuvait l'empressement avec lequel ils examinaient ce qu'il leur disait.
