18 et 19 Le troisième malheur : il s'adresse aux moqueurs.

Cordes... traits... Ces impies sont comparés à des animaux qui tirent un pesant chariot. Ils ne pèchent pas par entraînement comme les précédents ; ils traînent le vice après eux : ce sont les pécheurs obstinés qui insultent Dieu et se raillent de ses révélations, sous prétexte que ses paroles ne se réalisent pas (on les retrouve 2Pierre 3). Mais ils se trompent eux-mêmes : aussi les liens qui les attachent au péché sont-ils appelés des cordes de vanité.
